Construction

There will be phased occupancy throughout the construction, so ICRA requirements must be met. There is an active loading dock, so a site logistics plan was created to allow for limited access through the access road on the construction site.  The steel will be erected using a 100 ton hydraulic crane and there will be a few blind picks that occur. There will be construction in the entrance, an enclosed walkway will be erected to allow for public entrance into this wing of the existing hospital space.

Structural

The structure is made up of retaining walls, strip footers and spread footers ranging from 3x3 to 8x18 using 3000 psi cast-in-place concrete.  The retaining walls are 14” and 16” located on the ground and first floors due to the slope of the site.  The ground and first floors have a 5” concrete SOG with 6x6 - W2.0xW2.0 welded wire fabric over a vapor barrier and 4” crushed stone. There are concrete piers ranging from 28x28 to 36x36 on the footers on the ground and first floors.  The existing hospital foundation will be tied into the footers by means of caissons and grade beams.  The other floor have 4” concrete SOD with welded wire fabric as well. The beams and columns are structural steel mostly W14x22, W16x31, and W12x19.  The canopy is made of curved 12x4x3/8 HSS beams.  Beam to girder, beam to column web, and beam to column flange moment connections will be field bolted/welded with a shear connection.
